Opps! My Blog Was Deleted

The last three years of my blog’s content was deleted. Three years worth of articles, photos, design changes, and comments- gone. I was having a lot of buggy issues with the blog and WordPress so I asked Brian to help me fix it. He followed the advice of some person on YouTube without properly backing up my database and opps…gone.

We were able to recover the earliest articles but all my most recent content is gone forever. Technology can be so frustrating and unforgiving. ย I was sad, after all it’s three years of memories and work but I decided not to dwell on the loss and just move on.

I will rewrite some posts, specifically “How to Make Fireflies in a Bottle” but all the rest of it, we’ll just forget. I’m using this opportunity to start fresh with new posts and an all new design. You are looking at the new blog design right now. I hope you like it.

So, if you’re looking through my index and see a huge gap in articles, you now know why.

Thank you for reading and if you have a blog back. it. up. ๐Ÿ™‚

Update: A very kind reader informed of an Internet Archive called the Wayback Machine. This site takes “snap shots” of websites and saves them. Basically, through copy and paste, I was able to restore all my old posts! Thank you Wayback Machine and thank you dear reader!

  1. Most web hosts offer daily backups and keep them for anywhere from 15 to 45 days. Before it gets too long in the past, ring up your web host support phone or live chat or email and ask them if they have a backup. They can then do a backup restore for you. You’d get the same bugs that existed before, but you’d be able to save your content. From there, get the Backup Buddy plugin so you have back ups of backups.

    1. Hi Whitney, Thank you for your kind suggestions. We did call up our web host but they could not help us. However, a reader told me about the Wayback Machine. It’s an internet archive that takes snap shots of websites and saves them. I was able to restore all my old posts (but not the comments) thru copy and paste! And yep, we definitely have a backup now!

  2. Wow, that is awful! I’m sorry that happened to you. Hopefully you didn’t kill your husband! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ve been mostly absent from my site for the last couple of years but I am going to try to revive it. It turns out that I was missing it as an avenue to vent and talk about end of the world fiction which I enjoy.

Anyway, I’ve always enjoyed your articles and was wondering if you might consider writing a guest post for me? Something along the lines of your favorite apocalyptic/post apocalyptic movie, book or tv show would be fantastic. Of course, you can post links back to your site and that sort of thing. I’ve still got your site listed in my blogroll. Sometimes the best thing to do is to dust yourself off and start back at it – maybe a guest post on my site will help? Let me know. Thank you!

    1. Hi Barry!
First, I’m sorry I’m responding so late! I do plan to start blogging more consistently and replying to comments better so thank you being patient and a reader. I would love to guest post for your site. I will email you soon!

  3. Hello I found your blog from reading Trailersteading
Do you have more information about fixing up your house?
I own a single wide that is over 30 years old. I have been renting it out.
I plan to do some repair but just keep things simple. Thanks

    1. Hi Johnnie,

What information are you looking for, specifically? We have remodeled most of our mobile home and I plan on doing some blog posts showing before and after pictures of it very soon.

      1. I’d like to see that! We’re in central Florida and also have a mobile on a bit of land. We got chickens last year and hope to start a tiny garden any day.
