The last three years of my blog’s content was deleted. Three years worth of articles, photos, design changes, and comments- gone. I was having a lot of buggy issues with the blog and WordPress so I asked Brian to help me fix it. He followed the advice of some person on YouTube without properly backing up my database and opps…gone.
We are starting our first grade homeschool here at the Wannabe Homestead and we’ve got a ton of new books. We’re following the Classical Model of Education BUT you don’t have to follow the Classical model to enjoy these books- I think they’d be awesome for any 1st grader!
So far, my daughter and I have been taking homeschooling nice and slow but now that she is six, I’m ramping learning up by adding more subjects. We’re following the Classical model of education which I believe to be the most clear-cut and time-tested form of education there is (that’s just my opinion, there are other great models too).
I’m a documentary junkie. You can keep your cable TV and expensive movie tickets- give me a documentary and I’m good for the evening. I love them because you learn about the world around you rather than just being mindlessly entertained. Don’t get me wrong- these documentaries are entertaining and even more so because they’re real.
I’m homeschooling my soon-to-be 5 year old using theClassical method of education. Annnd it’s going really, really well! I’m following the schedule and resource recommendations of A Well-Trained Mind by Jessie Wise. The book guides you completely through your child’s education- from preschool to entrance into college.
I’m always fascinated by other people’s reading lists, and hopefully you won’t find mine too boring. That said, this post should be titled “My 2013 Reading List That I Won’t Read.” I love the idea of reading but I hardly do it enough. Pretty sad, right? I’m determined to change that though.
Schedule. That word makes me shudder. Not because I hate schedules- I love them. I just can’t keep to one and the bothers the heck out of me. But if I’m gonna keep my daughter from being indoctrinated by the state school system then I better get used schedules, at least a homeschool one for my daughter’s sake.
